Swyft Filings is a long-standing filing company, its terms are stated plainly on its own site, and there is nothing improper about presenting a price the way they present it.

The Unit Attached to $149

The trouble is comparative, not ethical. Registered agent service on their pricing is $149, billed quarterly. Four of those in a year is roughly $596.

Nearly every other agent in this market quotes an annual figure. Dropped into a list beside them, a quarterly $149 reads as a mid-range price, and it is not one; annualized it stands at the top of the Connecticut market by a wide distance. We found no separate first-year discount to soften it, either. If quarterly billing is the feature you want, then the comparison to run is $596 against everyone else's annual rate, not $149 against it.

There is a second, quieter difference in a quarterly cycle. Four payments a year mean four chances for a card to expire, a bank to decline, or a billing email to go unopened. That is a small operational point and it cuts both ways, since a smaller charge is also easier to approve. But an agent appointment is meant to be uninterrupted, and anything that can silently stop is worth noticing before you sign up for it four times a year instead of once.

Billed Annually Because the Obligation Is Annual

BUS-09 is the Change of Agent filing, the state's price for it is fifty dollars, and business.ct.gov and the printed version are both routes into the Secretary of the State's office. The agent taking over has to sign an acceptance on it. That requirement is the reason your replacement gets engaged before anything is filed and the quarterly subscription gets cancelled after the state's record updates, so the role is never briefly vacant.
