The renewal price is not published. We read the FAQ, we read the package listings, we read the homepage, and the figure was in none of them; nor is it in the terms. Our reading is that the number surfaces at the order screen or from a salesperson on the telephone, once twelve free months have already served their purpose.

Two things follow, and neither requires us to guess at the amount.

Agent service is structurally a subscription. Connecticut wants an agent named for the whole life of the company, which makes the renewal figure the real price and the first-year figure a preview.

And the moment the number arrives is the moment you have the least leverage. A buyer picking a formation package is at peak commitment and minimum information. Twelve months later there is a file of documents, a vendor's address sitting on the public record, and a habit, and moving now costs a state fee and an afternoon that it would not have cost at the outset. None of that is improper. It simply means the sequence favors the seller, and a buyer who spots the sequence can undo it by asking for the price before ordering rather than after.

We will not print an estimate of the figure. Guessing at a competitor's price would wreck the only argument this page makes, which is that a published number serves a buyer better than a withheld one.

The fee sits in the statute rather than in agency policy: Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243u(a)(4) prices a change of agent certificate at fifty dollars. The document itself is the Change of Agent form, numbered BUS-09. Connecticut's Secretary of the State receives it, in print or through the online business filing system, whichever suits you.

The part that governs your timing is the acceptance. Your incoming agent signs the filing to accept the appointment, which means the successor has to be lined up before the form is complete. That gives a natural order with no gap in it: appoint, file, wait for the state's record to show the new name, then close the Inc Authority account. Do it the other way around and there is a window in which your company's agent field points at a service you have already cancelled.

One further consequence is worth carrying into the decision. A Connecticut company that falls behind on its annual report faces no late fee, but a default carried past twelve months puts administrative dissolution on the table.
