A Subscription That Pays Off If You Open It

Rocket Lawyer is not primarily a registered agent company, and that is the honest starting point. It is a legal services platform: document templates, contract review, attorney consultations, electronic signing, the whole cabinet. If your business signs leases, hires contractors, sends demand letters, and would otherwise be calling a lawyer for two hours a year, the membership can be cheap relative to what it replaces. The registered agent appointment is one drawer in that cabinet, and if you are opening the other drawers regularly, buying the drawer along with the cabinet is sensible.

One Price, Whichever Membership You Hold

Agent service runs $125 a year, and our check found the same $125 at every membership level with no introductory rate anywhere. That is a straight structure and it deserves credit for being one. Nothing steps up, nothing expires, and nobody gets surprised at the anniversary.

So the comparison has nothing to do with honesty. It is entirely about scope. If the platform goes unused, that $125 is buying a statutory address and a scanning operation, and $125 is a lot for a statutory address and a scanning operation in a state that draws no distinction between providers.

Twenty-six dollars a year is not a dramatic saving, and it is the least interesting reason to choose either one. The interesting question is whether you want the rest of the platform.

Connecticut's Eligibility List, and the Rocket Lawyer Handover

Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243n sets out who may hold the appointment, and the list runs broader than most people assume: resident individuals, corporations formed or authorized here, domestic and foreign LLCs, limited liability partnerships on the same footing, even statutory trusts. Each needs a place of business inside Connecticut, and each signs an acceptance.

Two halves of the self-service question follow, and both are true. Your LLC cannot appoint itself, since the state frames the entity option as another business already on its register. An owner who actually lives in Connecticut can take the job personally, at the cost of putting a residential address into a public database.

The mechanics do not change either way. BUS-09 is the form, fifty dollars is the fee, Connecticut's Secretary of the State is the recipient, and paper and online submissions are equally acceptable. Because the successor's signature is part of the form, the appointment gets arranged first and the filing follows, which is what keeps the record continuous.
