Take the opinions cheaply and the figures seriously, because the figures are ZenBusiness's own.

Their software is very good. Formation, state filings, agent mail and compliance nudges live behind one login, the interface is unusually pleasant for an industry that mostly ships web forms designed a decade ago, and everything inside that environment behaves consistently. If you want a single administrative home for the company and expect to open it regularly, keeping the agent appointment in there as one more line is a reasonable way to buy.

The Opening Number and the Recurring Number

Bought on its own, with no formation package attached, ZenBusiness lists registered agent service at $99 plus state fees. Renewal is $199 annually.

Neither figure is hidden and neither is dishonest. They describe different stages. The $99 covers an introduction. The $199 covers everything after it, and Connecticut expects an appointed agent for as long as the company exists, so everything after it is the whole of the arrangement.

The trailing phrase on the first figure deserves a second look too. "Plus state fees" means whatever filings ride along with the order get added on top, so the amount advertised and the amount charged are not the same amount.

Two hundred dollars separates those columns over three years, and the statutory work behind both is identical.

$99, once a year, for as long as you keep the company. Nothing steps up at the anniversary because there is no introductory rate waiting to expire. A summons handed to us in Connecticut gets imaged and forwarded before the office closes, which is the only part of this job with a clock attached to it.
